The wolf sits on top of the band and takes up most of the finger: muzzle raised and turned to the side, ears swept back, mouth closed, as though the animal has just caught something on the wind.
The band behind it is plain, polished and tapered, so all of the design is held at the front and the rest of the ring stays quiet.
Sculpted heads live or die on the muzzle. This one has the snout, the lip and the ridged brow worked in relief, so the face keeps its shape at arm's length rather than reading as a lump of metal.
The fur is cut as separate strands across the skull and the ruff, and the finish is darkened down in the grooves rather than laid over the surface, which is what gives the coat its depth.
