A wolf beach towel is one of those items that gets bought for a holiday and then used year round for everything else. Round towels in particular have quietly become picnic blankets, festival groundsheets and sofa throws, which is why this group sells steadily through winter as well as summer.
The designs here lean heavily on the round format, and that shape is worth understanding before choosing, because it changes what the towel is good for as much as the print does.
Choosing a wolf beach towel by size and shape
Two sizes cover the range, and they suit genuinely different uses.
The larger 150cm round is the one most people picture. It gives enough room to lie on comfortably with space to spare, and it is the size that works as a picnic blanket for two or three people. It is also the more forgiving choice on uneven ground, since the extra diameter means the edges can ride up without leaving you on sand.
The smaller 100cm option is a different proposition. It is a towel for drying rather than lounging, it packs down considerably smaller, and it is the sensible choice for a bag you are already filling with other things. For children it works as a full lounging towel where the larger size would be unwieldy.
One more point on the smaller size: it is the one to choose if the towel is mainly for a gym bag or a swimming lesson rather than a day out, since it dries faster and takes up considerably less room alongside kit.
Round against rectangular, and why it matters
Round towels have a real advantage and a real drawback, and neither is obvious until you have used one.
The advantage is that you never need to reposition as the sun moves. On a rectangular towel, following the sun means picking the whole thing up and turning it. On a round one you simply rotate where you lie, which sounds trivial and turns out to be the feature people mention most.
The drawback is packing. A round towel does not fold into a neat rectangle, so it takes slightly more room in a bag than its area suggests. Rolling rather than folding solves most of this.
The circular format also suits the designs here better than a rectangle would. A howling wolf against a full moon is a naturally circular composition, which is why the moon and galaxy themes dominate this collection.
Which print suits a circle
Celestial work is the strongest group. The Wolf Beach Towel Galaxy and the Wolf Beach Towel Astral place the animal against deep space, and the Wolf Beach Towel Full Moon takes the most literal advantage of the round shape by matching the composition to the towel itself.
Symbolic designs cover the middle ground. The Wolf Beach Towel Catches Dream carries dreamcatcher imagery, and the Beach Towel Mystic Wolf leans spiritual rather than photographic.
For something more direct, the Wild Wolf Beach Towel and the Wolf Beach Towel Warrior take the animal head on. The Wolf Beach Towel Trio and the Wolf Beach Towel Origami are the two outliers, one grouping three animals and the other reducing the subject to folded planes.
Using one well beyond the beach
A good number of these never see sand, and the round format is why.
As a picnic blanket, a round towel seats a group better than a rectangle does, because people naturally arrange themselves in a circle around food rather than in rows. The 150cm size comfortably takes two adults or a small family.
At festivals and outdoor events, it works as a groundsheet that packs smaller and dries faster than a proper blanket. It is also considerably easier to shake out at the end of a day.
Indoors, several buyers use these as sofa throws or as a layer over a bed. The printed side is soft enough for that, and the circular shape draped over a corner sofa reads as deliberate rather than as a towel someone left out.
For children, it doubles as a play mat and a beach towel in one object, which is one fewer thing to carry.
Washing without losing the colour
These are printed rather than woven, which governs how they should be treated.
Wash cool and separately for the first cycle, since printed textiles release a small amount of excess dye the first time. Skip fabric softener entirely: it coats the fibres and makes any towel less absorbent, which is a real loss on a piece you want drying you rather than pushing water around.
Air dry where possible. Tumble drying on high is the fastest way to dull a printed design, and it is unnecessary since these dry quickly by nature.
If the towel is going to live in a car boot for a summer, shake the sand out before folding. Sand trapped in a rolled towel abrades the print surface over a season more than washing ever will.
Pieces that travel with it
For a day out, this is rarely the only thing in the bag. Our wolf umbrella collection covers the item you want when the weather turns, and our wolf patch collection carries small pieces that attach to whatever bag you are using.
If you like the idea of a printed textile but want it indoors, our wolf blanket collection covers throws designed for a sofa rather than a beach, and our wolf shower curtain collection carries the same design language into a bathroom.
Everything else in this part of the range sits in our wolf accessories collection.
