Look at tattoo work from ten years ago and most of it is datable at a glance. Photorealistic portraits, infinity symbols, tribal bands: each belongs to a moment.
Geometric framing does not, because it was never trying to look like anything real. Here a hard diamond stands on one point, drawn in blue down one side and magenta down the other with the paint flicked out past every corner, and it holds a wolf head that faces straight ahead. The head is washed in deep purple and violet and scattered with white stars, and below the muzzle the colour falls away into tall bare trees with one small dark wolf standing at the foot of them.
The frame is the part with no reference to become dated against, and it is the closest thing to a safe long-term choice in a medium that has very few.
At 14 x 21 cm this is one of the larger pieces we carry, and this design rewards the size. The star field, the graded wash across the face and the small forest under the muzzle all want room, and the trees and the little wolf are the first things that close up when a design like this is shrunk.
A drawing with this much inside it asks a great deal of the print.
A large piece, so it wants a flat area with room around it: an upper back, a chest, an outer thigh.
