Grey on a wolf is never one flat tone. Individual guard hairs are banded along their length, so a coat that reads as grey from across a valley is really black, cream and brown mixed together. This design takes that idea to its limit and works in monochrome throughout.
The wolf faces forward, drawn in fine black line with the ears set wide and the eyes picked out sharply. Feathers and small arrowheads fan out on either side of the head, a crescent moon sits above the brow, and a dreamcatcher hangs below the chin with more feathers trailing from it. Behind all of that is a mottled grey wash with the look of aged paper, lighter at the centre and darker into the corners.
Grey and black give the linework somewhere to land, so the detail in the muzzle and the web of the dreamcatcher stay readable instead of dissolving into the background.
