Double exposure puts one picture inside another, and this design uses the trick well. The wolf is caught mid howl, head thrown back and jaws open, while its chest and shoulders open into a night forest: bare black trees, a sky of deep blue starlight, and a second, much smaller wolf standing on a ridge far inside the scene. Dark orbs drift loose across the white ground around it.
The idea of an animal holding a whole landscape inside it is far older than the technique. Across many nations of North America the wolf is spoken of as a relative and a teacher, a figure tied to family, hunting and the land itself. Those tellings differ from people to people and never formed one shared legend, so they are best left in the plural. What the artwork borrows is the shape of the idea: the large wolf carries a place, and the small wolf inside it carries the same song onward.
