Wolf fathers actually do the work

Among mammals this is genuinely unusual. In the overwhelming majority of species the male's involvement ends at mating, and the female raises the young alone.

Wolves are one of the exceptions, and not marginally. The male hunts for the mother while she is confined to the den, brings food back for the pups, guards the site, and later plays with and disciplines the young. Older siblings from previous years do the same.

The pups are raised by the entire family, and every returning adult will feed them regardless of parentage.

It is one of the reasons the wolf keeps being used as a symbol of family rather than of solitude, and it is the better half of the animal's reputation.
