Two wolves fight inside you, one destructive and one good, and the one that wins is the one you feed. It is repeated constantly, usually credited to Cherokee tradition and told as an old grandfather's teaching.
The attribution does not hold up. There is no record of it in Cherokee sources, it does not appear anywhere before the twentieth century, and the earliest versions that can be traced are Christian sermon material from around the 1970s, with the Native American framing added afterwards.
The Cherokee Nation itself has an entirely genuine and rather different body of wolf tradition, including a real prohibition on killing them.
It is a good parable. It is just a modern one wearing borrowed clothes, and it is better to know that than to repeat something as an Indigenous teaching when it is not.
Two wolf heads on a pendant carry the idea perfectly well without the false pedigree.
Stainless steel in a silver tone, bold enough to read at a distance and hard enough to keep its edges.
Our article on the wolf in Native American tradition covers the real material. See wolf pendant necklaces.
