Two kinds of drawing in one circle
The wolf inside each round setting is shaded almost photographically, head and shoulders in soft greyscale, muzzle turned to the left. Behind it rises a run of flat black tribal linework, all hooks and points, with no shading in it at all. Faint crosshatched lines cross the pale ground behind both.
That contrast is the whole idea. One half of the artwork is the animal as the eye sees it, the other is pure mark making, cut down to the strokes a tattooist would use. Wolf imagery has moved between those two modes for centuries, from beasts worked into Norse metalwork through to modern tattoo flash.

Rim, setting and fastening
Metal, offered in gold and silver. The pair photographed shows a bright silver toned rim holding a clear domed cabochon, and the dome lifts the artwork and throws a soft reflection across the top of the circle. Above the setting sits a hinged lever back ear wire. Both earrings are pictured.
