Double-Sided Wolf Rug

Half of this wolf is painted and half is drawn. Along the centre line the airbrushed side hands over to ornament: the cheek, ear and lower jaw on the right are packed with green, pink and teal linework, diamonds, scales and feather shapes, while the rest stays a soft wash of magenta, violet and blue around one bright turquoise eye. Behind the head a wide mandala ring, outlined in thin bright green, spreads over a deep indigo field.

Two halves of the same head

The split works because a wolf's face is already built to be read. Grey wolves carry a light mask around the eyes and muzzle set against darker fur, and that contrast is what makes an expression legible to another wolf right across a clearing. Ears forward, ears flat, lip lifted: the markings carry the message. Swap one half for pattern and the eye still finds the face at once.

This palette suits digital 3D printing, which holds the fine black outlines crisp against the violet behind them.
