A black wolf in bright snowThe setting does most of the work. A dark animal against fresh snow and pale birch trunks has about as much tonal separation as a photograph can give you, so the outline stays clean and the coat keeps the...

Every hair on this wolf's face has been painted in, from the pale ruff along the cheeks to the darker mask sitting between the eyes. The colours are honest ones, warm brown and tan over charcoal and cream, with amber eyes, a pale muzzle...

Dark all the way throughSubject and palette agreeing with each other, which is not true of every design in this range. A wolf sitting back on its haunches and howling, worked in greys and silver white against a night sky, with a full moon...

Cream light fills most of this design. A single black wolf stands in profile against a full moon so large it runs almost from edge to edge, craters picked out in pale gold, with a deep violet sky and a drift of thin cloud...

Half of this wolf is painted and half is drawn. Along the centre line the airbrushed side hands over to ornament: the cheek, ear and lower jaw on the right are packed with green, pink and teal linework, diamonds, scales and feather shapes, while...

There is an actual wolf in the skyLupus, the Wolf, is a genuine constellation in the southern sky beside Centaurus. It is one of the forty-eight catalogued by Ptolemy in the second century, so people have been putting a wolf among the stars for...

The wolf as a soft outline A flat grey wolf head sits on the hood, drawn in simple shapes: a black nose, two white upper teeth, a red tongue and small ears set wide apart. It belongs to the storybook end of the animal...

What actually fitsDimensions are hard to picture, so in practical terms this is a full day bag rather than a small one.A comfortable load is a laptop in a sleeve, a charger, a paperback or a notebook, a water bottle standing upright, a packed...

Weight you can feelAt 17.5g this sits at the heavier end of a wearable ring. Light enough to forget about after a fortnight, substantial enough that you notice it is gone. That balance is what most people are looking for and rarely name. The whole...

Howls really do carry further at nightThis is usually put down to quiet, and quiet is only part of it. The air itself behaves differently after dark.During the day the ground is warm and the air above it is warmer than the air higher...

Every piece of wood carries a grain that belongs to it alone. On this watch the case and the dial share the same pale timber, so those lines run right across the face behind the hands and shift as the light moves over them....

Engraved rather than sculptedThe wolf here is cut into the metal rather than raised out of it, and it is small: a single head on the polished strip that runs down the centre of the band, between two dark inset panels with a fine...

Printed to look like a photographTwo wolves under a full moon: one standing with its head turned to the right, the other lying on the rock in front of it and looking straight out. Conifers fill the left of the panel and a lit...

Grey is not a colour on a wolfLook closely at a grey wolf and there is almost no plain grey anywhere on it.The coat is made of banded hairs, each one striped light and dark along its own length, in browns, blacks, creams and...
