Short spiky strokes crowd the ruff and shoulders of this standing wolf, ease off along the back, and open into fine flicks at the tail. The whole animal is engraved into clear acrylic in full profile, nose to tail.
The panel stays dark until the base is switched on. LEDs light the sheet from below, and the light travels inside the acrylic until it meets an engraved line. Only there does it scatter and become visible. What you see is a drawing made of lit points, with the room showing straight through the untouched acrylic around it.
The engraving follows the true outline of a solid animal, so your brain supplies the volume it already knows belongs there. The glow also sits inside the sheet rather than on its face, which reads as distance. In a dark room the lit lines are the only thing showing, and that is where the drawing is strongest.
