A flag and a wolf are both built from bold recognisable shapes, and putting them together could easily have turned into a mess. It works here because the flag is doing the background and the wolves are doing the subject, rather than both competing. Three of them stand in the grass, a large one in the centre with a smaller wolf on either side.
Flat colour is the reason. Stripes and stars are broad blocks with hard edges and no shading, which is exactly what stays crisp when printed on fabric. Photographic designs lose their fine detail to the weave; a graphic built from solid areas does not.
The panel is a deep blue night ground rather than a pale one, and the flag across it is the brightest thing we print. That is what makes the bag easy to pick out as yours from across a room.
