Flames run up the muzzle and across the brow of this wolf, orange and gold tapering into silver fur, with a burst of deep red smoke opening out behind the head. All of it sits on black, so the bright work arrives first and the dark ground carries it.
That contrast is doing real work at this size. A knitted surface breaks any image into small loops, and soft gradients tend to give way once the fabric stretches over the foot. Heavy shapes survive the journey. The swept back ears, the wide open jaw and the row of white teeth all hold their outline at ankle scale, which is exactly what a print this small needs.
Colour is placed where it counts too. Red inside the open mouth, gold along the cheeks, and a haze of red light behind the head that keeps the whole face lifted off the black.
