Black Wolf Blanket

The face comes straight at you out of a solid black ground, built from thousands of fine glowing strands in white, gold, amber, green and cold blue, with two red eyes holding steady at the centre of it. The black is not empty space in this design, it is the surface the light is drawn against.

Where a black coat comes from

Black coats in North American wolves trace back to a single gene variant that entered wild populations from domestic dogs thousands of years ago, and it turns up more often in forested country than out on open tundra. The symbol people gave it

Meaning arrived later, and it arrived unevenly. Nations across the continent and traditions across Europe each loaded the dark wolf with quite different weight, from guardian and guide through to warning, and no one reading speaks for all of them.
