Pigment that decides where it settles

Watercolour is the one paint an artist never fully controls. Water carries the pigment outward and drops it at the edge of the wet patch, leaving a darker rim and a luminous, half empty middle. That bloom is why the wolf washed across this jacket looks lit from within rather than filled in.

Look closely and much of the drawing is thinned to almost nothing. The eye closes the shape anyway, which is the oldest trick in the medium.

Why a wolf takes to watercolour

A grey wolf is never one colour. Black tipped guard hairs lie over dense pale underfur, with rust, cream and silver running through the same animal, and the whole coat shifts with the season and the angle of the light. The jacket is hooded, thick and cosy, with organic cotton against the skin and polyester on the outside, and a reinforced zip at the front. Machine washable at 30 degrees.
