The difference between cut and cast detail decides how a ring looks in three years, and almost nobody is told about it.
Cast detail is formed when the metal is poured, so the design stands proud of the surface. On a ring, which spends its life against door handles, steering wheels and desks, the high points take every knock and slowly round off.
Engraved detail is cut into the surface instead. The lines sit below the metal around them and are protected by it, so the design stays sharp long after a raised one has softened.
Here that means a wolf head in profile, muzzle raised and mouth open, with the words pack and leader following the curve of the band either side of it. All of it is cut into a brushed centre panel that sits slightly below the polished bevelled edges, so the lettering and the head are set down where the metal protects them.
That makes this the sensible choice for someone who will not take it off. It is a low, close-fitting band rather than a sculpted one, so it fits under gloves and does not catch.
Stainless steel does the rest: no tarnish, no polishing, and no reason to remove it for water or sweat.
Cut lines gradually collect skin oil, which softens the contrast. A soft dry cloth every few weeks keeps them reading clearly.
