Norse legend binds Fenrir with Gleipnir, a fetter the dwarves put together from the sound of a cat's footfall, the roots of a mountain, the breath of a fish and three other things nobody can hold. Fastening has always mattered in the stories.
Here the wolf sits at the front of the belt rather than at the end of a chain. The buckle is an oval the colour of aged silver, its ground covered in scrolling foliate work, with a wolf's head raised at the centre and the ears set back. A rectangular plate takes it onto the strap, and a small ball catch sits below.
