Grey Wolf Head Hoodie

Every hair on this wolf's face has been painted in, from the pale ruff along the cheeks to the darker mask sitting between the eyes. The colours are honest ones, warm brown and tan over charcoal and cream, with amber eyes, a pale muzzle and a black nose. The head is set large and central on a deep teal ground that carries over both sleeves and up across the hood, flecked with faint pale specks like snow caught in torchlight.

The colours in a wolf's coat

A grey wolf's coat is a mix rather than a single colour. Each guard hair is banded along its length, black at the tip, then rust or cream, then a darker base, so the whole coat only settles into one shade once you step back from it. Painted this close, the banding is what you see: brown, black and cream laid side by side, agreeing at a distance to look like one animal.

Pull the hood up and the painted face keeps looking forward while your own drops into shadow, so the outline reads as animal a moment before it reads as person. Down, it is simply a good portrait worn on the chest.
