Grey and white fur runs in a soft mottle across the head and back of this puppet, breaking to clean white over the muzzle, the chest and the underside, with black tips on both ears and a glossy black nose at the end of a long snout. Dark brown eyes sit under pale brows, and the head tilts a little, the way a young wolf looks up at something taller than itself.
The puppet measures 27 cm and is open at the base, so a hand goes in and the head, ears and front paws move together. The cover is cotton filled, which gives the head enough body to hold its shape while the paws are being worked. Hand wash for durability.
On the hand it becomes a character rather than a toy on a shelf: a wolf that answers questions, crosses a bedroom floor and listens at the edge of an imagined forest. The coat is silky enough that it also does duty as an ordinary plush once the story is over.
