The grey wolf wears far more colours than its name lets on. Across its range the species runs from near white through buff and tawny to charcoal and true black, and several of those shades often turn up on one animal, dark along the spine, pale at the throat and muzzle. A photographic print asks a lot of the cloth, since the blurred wood behind has to stay soft while the fur stays sharp. Dye sublimation holds that shift, and holds the colour through repeated soakings.
