Let it choose the palette

A piece this loud is not going to fit into an existing scheme. It will decide one, and the useful move is to let it.

Pick two colours out of the canvas and repeat them elsewhere in the room, in cushions, a throw or a lamp. Two is the number. One reads as coincidence and three starts to look like a themed room.

Done that way, the painting stops being a loud object in a quiet room and becomes the source of the scheme. Ignored, it fights everything.

Neutral walls, please

The other half of the same rule. A multicoloured canvas needs a plain wall behind it, in white, grey, cream or a soft neutral.
