Nordic design tends toward the abstract, and this ring follows that: the wolf is present as claws, set into a round medallion on the broad flat top and ringed by a border of smaller ones, rather than as a portrait. Knotwork fills the space above them and the panels on both shoulders.
The result is considerably quieter than a head design and reads as pattern from any distance. It also avoids the problem that catches out full-face rings, where fine detail turns to mush at arm's length.
At 13g this sits between the light engraved bands and the heavy sculpted pieces. Enough presence to feel like a real ring, not so much that it dominates the hand.
