A triangle is the one shape that cannot be pushed out of true. Fix the three sides and the angles are settled, which is why roof trusses, bridges and 3D models are all built from them. This standing wolf is drawn the same way, as a mesh of triangles stretched over the frame of the animal.
The facets crowd together at the muzzle, the brow and the shoulder, where the form turns quickly, then open out across the flank and haunch where the body is broad. Nothing is shaded and nothing is coloured. The wolf stands square on four legs, ears up, tail low, head turned a little towards the room, and all of that pose is carried by line alone.
There is no fill anywhere in the design, so the wall shows through the whole animal and becomes part of the drawing. Close up it reads as a wireframe, the sort of thing an engineer might sketch. From further back the eye closes the gaps and simply sees a wolf. That double reading is what faceted art has always traded on, and it is why angular work holds a wide blank wall so well.
