Grey is not a colour on a wolf

Look closely at a grey wolf and there is almost no plain grey anywhere on it.

The coat is made of banded hairs, each one striped light and dark along its own length, in browns, blacks, creams and rust. The grey you see is those bands averaging out at a distance. Walk closer and it separates into half a dozen colours.

That is why the animal prints so well on fabric. A flat grey would look dull on a bag panel; a surface built from many tones has depth in it and holds up under different lighting.

It also goes with everything

The practical consequence. This one is printed in black, white and silver-grey, the pale eyes the only touch of colour in it, and it sits against black, navy, denim, olive and tan without any thought, which is not true of the bolder designs in this range.
