Every hair on this wolf is a line of light. The face is built from fine bright filaments, gold through the ruff, white across the cheeks, amber along the brow, all of it laid over black.
The effect comes from contrast. Put a pale line on a black ground and the eye reads it as brighter than it really is, so the ruff appears to burn while the sock around it stays quiet and dark.
The wolf looks straight out. Mouth open, tongue red, eyes a steady yellow gold with black centres. The ears break the outline near the top of the foot, and the two dark bands of fur between them give the head its weight. Lower down the filaments fan out and fade, so the face keeps no hard edge and floats clear of the toe.
