Orange light floods the upper panels of this canopy, with a pale sun sitting low and a black ridge of hills cutting straight across beneath it. In front of that ridge, back turned to you, sits a single silhouette, ears up, every hair along its outline burning where the light passes through.
Photographers call this rim lighting, and fur is close to the perfect subject for it. A solid edge simply goes black against a bright sky, but thousands of fine hairs each catch and scatter a low sun, so the outline glows while the body stays in shadow. It is why the shape here reads so clearly despite being almost entirely dark.
Two colours do all the work. From any distance this looks like a dark umbrella with a band of fire across it, and the shape only resolves as you get closer. The orange holds its heat because dye sublimation fixes the ink inside the fibre rather than on top of it.
