Two wolves meet nose to nose at the centre line. The one on the left is ice, pale blue and white, its coat streaming like frost off a ridge and its eyes almost shut. The one on the right is fire, dark red brown fur lit from beneath by orange and gold, its eyes burning yellow.
The pairing is truer than it looks. The blue core of a flame is its hottest part, hotter than the orange tips above it. Glacier ice reads blue because thick ice swallows the red end of daylight and lets the blue escape. Fire and ice have been borrowing each other's colours all along, and the print simply sets them side by side so you notice.
Wolves live this contrast for real. A grey wolf wears two coats at once: a dense woolly underlayer that traps warm air through deep winter, and a longer outer layer of guard hairs that sheds snow and water. In late spring the underfur comes away in ragged sheets and the same animal walks out looking half its winter size, lean and long legged. Two versions of one wolf, six months apart. There is more on the species in the grey wolf.
Printed on microfibre with high quality digital 3D printing, so the flame and frost gradients stay sharp edge to edge. It measures round, with a tasselled edge, weighs 420 g, dries fast over a rail or a chair back, and goes in the machine at 30 degrees. See the rest of the range in wolf beach towel.
