The head faces straight out, built from black ink and filled with ornament: banded triangles down the nose, rows of dots along the brow, leaf and petal shapes through the cheeks, and long feather forms hanging at the lower left. One side of the face and the chest run to solid black, which gives the finer pattern something to push against, and the eyes are left as two narrow slits of light.
The background is a soft beige gradient, brightest just behind the ears and deepening towards the edges, so the drawing has light ground under it everywhere it matters.
