Every mark in this drawing is a line. It is pen work the whole way through, hatching and stippling and repeated pattern laid down until a muzzle, a heavy brow and two dark eyes come up out of the ink. The head is turned a little off square, so the gaze arrives at an angle. The patterning shifts as it crosses the face: triangles along the bridge of the nose, small scales on the cheek, rows of short dashes where the fur would sit tightest.
Feathers, beads and geometric rosettes fill the space around the ears and jaw, and long quills hang down past the chin in the manner of a dreamcatcher. Feathers suit a pen. The barbs all run in parallel, so a few dozen strokes of varying length read instantly as one soft object. That is why the ornament stays legible from standing height while the fine work inside the muzzle waits for a closer look.
The ground behind the wolf is mottled grey, printed to read as worn plaster, with faint script showing through along one edge. Black, white and grey throughout, so it sits quietly on wood or tile.
