A photorealistic image is completely understood in about a second. Abstract work is not, and that difference is the whole reason to choose it.
The wolf's face is drawn in full, in dense black and grey with two green eyes, and everything around it is left to break apart: brush arcs above the ears, scattered ink, a hard geometric shape below the neck. The eye keeps returning because it has not quite finished, which is why abstract pieces hold attention over years where realistic ones settle into the background.
A realistic design belongs to a recognisable moment and dates with it. An abstract one does not, because it was never referencing a photograph in the first place.
Of everything in this range, it is the treatment least likely to look like a particular year.
Which is harder than it appears. Because the head is rendered so closely, the loose marks around it have to carry the rest of the design, and they have to land in the right places, since there is no pattern to hide a weak one.
The green of the eyes does the same job. It is the only colour in the piece, so it decides where you look first.
9.5 x 18.9 cm, tall and narrow, so it suits a forearm, a calf or the line beside the spine.
