Working against black

The ground is very nearly black, and that choice does much of the work. A dark field takes the surrounding light out of the picture, so the gold swirls behind the shoulder and the fine blue filigree curling across the lower half both appear to glow rather than simply sit there. Deep grounds also let the made bed read as one solid shape in a room, with the wolf as its single bright point.
