Purple fills the sky on one side of this curtain and warm amber on the other, and the wolf's face is lit to match. The left half of the head sits in near black shadow. The right half catches the light and turns gold and cream. Both eyes stay amber and level, looking out at you. Dark mountain ridges run along the bottom edge.
A dreamcatcher hangs over the shadowed side, its woven web caught in the dark, feathers and beads trailing down past the wolf's cheek in white, grey and brown. The overlap is what makes the picture: the hoop sits on the half you can barely see into.
In Anishinaabe telling, Ma'iingan the wolf walked with Original Man when the world was new, the two of them naming everything they met. They were then sent to live apart, and it was said their fates would run together from that day on, so that whatever came to one would come to the other.
