Set against open space, the wolf on this towel is drawn in fine pale ink, head thrown back in a howl, its coat worked into scrolls and curls that lie across the star field. The cloud behind it runs from rust and gold on one side to teal and near black on the other, flecked all over with white, and the lower edges of the drawing trail away into that blue.
Pinks and teals in galaxy photographs come from chemistry. Ionised hydrogen glows red, oxygen glows blue green, sulphur burns a deeper crimson, so the palette of a nebula is a reading of whatever is alight inside it. A sky printed in those colours carries an inventory of burning gas behind the wolf.
Norse tellers put wolves in the heavens long before anyone photographed one there. Skoll and Hati run behind the sun and the moon, and the chase is the story of why the light keeps moving. A wolf belonging to the whole sky, rather than one hillside, is an older idea than the telescope. More of that sort of thing in our 42 facts about wolves.
Microfibre, 420 g, round with a fringed edge and a choice of 100 cm or 150 cm across, with high quality digital 3D printing holding the star field sharp. It dries fast and machine washes at 30 degrees. See the full wolf beach towel range, or find the same night palette in wolf decor.
