A full standing wolf runs the length of these socks, ears up, forelegs straight, paws set in snow, printed in black and white. Most sock prints stop at the head. This one gives you the entire body, and the animal looks directly out at the viewer.
The narrow panel of an ankle sock is a demanding shape to fill, far taller than it is wide. A standing wolf fits it almost exactly, so the composition takes care of itself. Ears reaching up towards the cuff, chest filling the middle, legs tapering down towards the toe.
Working in grey scale helps as well. With no colour to lean on, the image depends on tone, and the strong darks of the back, the mask and the leg fronts keep their weight even where the knit softens the finer fur. The snow behind stays open and light, which is what lets the silhouette come forward.
