A wolf hearing a chorus can join it or not, and which it does is not random.

Researchers working with captive packs found that when a wolf was taken away, the ones who howled most for it were the ones with the strongest bond to that individual, regardless of rank. Measured stress levels did not explain the difference. The relationship did.

So a howl is not simply an alarm going off. It carries something closer to preference, which is a strange and rather good thing to know about a picture on your wall.

A dark treatment
