A full moon sits at the centre of this blanket, craters and all, on a disc of stars, with a white wolf stretched over the top of it like a bridge. A crescent below carries the words Moon Child across its horns, a faceted crystal hangs in the curve, and leaf sprigs, small flowers and mushrooms frame the circle down both sides. White line on black, and nothing else in the palette.
Wolves keep to the edges of the day. They travel and hunt most in the hours around dusk, on through the dark and again at first light, so the moon is simply what is overhead while they work. Open ground under a full moon gives them light to move by and distance to see across.
The pairing runs through the old calendars as well. In English tradition the full moon of deep winter is the Wolf Moon, named for the season when packs are heard most from the edge of the woods.
