Wolf Trucker Cap

Four legs, a deep chest and a full brush of tail: this patch carries the whole animal. It is worked in tan and brown thread on a cream ground, framed by a brown border, with WOLF stitched into the lower corner. Seen side on like that, the long legs and the deep chest are what hold your eye first.

Two tones and a worn edge

Cream covers the upper front panels, grey takes the lower crown and the curved peak, and the sides and back are black mesh. White contrast stitching runs along the panel seams and in four rows across the brim, so the seams themselves become part of the pattern. The peak edge is finished with deliberate fraying, pale threads pulled loose along the rim.

Built for the working day

Half mesh caps came out of the American feed and farm trade, given away at grain elevators and depots to men who spent the day in a cab or a yard. The recipe has not changed since: firm cloth at the front to hold a design flat and square, open mesh behind to keep air moving.
