Black and gold, the colours of Anubis Anubis was painted black in Egyptian tomb art for reasons that had little to do with the coats of living animals. Black was the colour of the silt left by the Nile flood, the colour of returning...

Grey and white fur runs in a soft mottle across the head and back of this puppet, breaking to clean white over the muzzle, the chest and the underside, with black tips on both ears and a glossy black nose at the end of...

Grey wolves wear two coats at once. Long guard hairs carry most of the colour and shed the weather, while a dense underlayer holds the heat in. That is why a wolf in winter looks frosted rather than evenly grey, and it is the...

Red and yellow hearts sit where the eyes would be, flat against a grey face with a stitched brow arched above each. Below them the muzzle runs long and narrow to a wide black nose, and a small pink tongue shows at the side....

The paw is a snowshoeA wolf's foot is startlingly large for the animal attached to it, and that is deliberate engineering rather than an accident of scale.Spreading the toes widens the contact area and spreads the weight, which is what lets a wolf move...

Head thrown back and muzzle open to the sky, this wolf is caught in the middle of a howl on a jumble of grey rock. The sculpt runs from the raised chin down through a thick neck ruff to a long tail carried low,...

Guardian of the mountain shrines Okami is the Japanese word for wolf, and in the mountain shrines of Chichibu and Mitake the wolf was honoured rather than hunted. Farmers asked it to keep deer and boar out of the fields, and took paper charms...

A werewolf caught mid roar Jaws wide and teeth bared, the creature on this shirt fills the whole front and carries on across both sleeves. It is a single face, painted close enough that you can read the amber in the eyes and the...

Three pigs in felt dungarees lie side by side, one in red over green, one in yellow over red and one in pink over blue, each with a pink painted wooden head, a raised tan snout with two dark nostrils and a pair of...
