The colour choice is physiologically correctBlack, white and a bright turquoise green, with the wolf lit pale against the dark and no other colour let into the picture. The glow is a stylistic decision; the choice of hue is closer to documentary.By moonlight your...

Panels read as time passingMost multi-panel work is one picture cut into pieces. This is doing something better than that.A pack strung out across separate panels does not read as a frozen instant. The eye moves from one panel to the next in sequence,...

The safest choice in the rangeIf you are buying one painting and you are not certain about the room, buy this one.A single wolf walks out of a bank of pale stones towards you, with a fallen bare tree lying behind it, flat water...

Colour, deliberatelyMost wolf art sits in greys, blues and whites. This one does not, and that is the reason to choose it.A wolf's head in profile, muzzle raised, painted across a wash of crimson, orange, pink and violet that behaves more like a nebula...

A husky drawn on wolf lines Grey and brown fur runs over the skull and back of this seated plush, then breaks into cream at the muzzle, chest and legs. That split is the whole reason northern dogs get mistaken for wolves at a...

Black coats in North American wolves trace back to dogs. A gene variant carried out of domestic dogs and into wolf packs thousands of years ago flips grey to black, and it took hold most strongly in forested country where dark cover pays. This...

A grey wolf is not really grey. Each guard hair carries bands of black, brown, cream and rust along its length, and at a distance the eye blends them into what we call grey. Close up, the coat breaks back apart into colour, which...

The image everybody picturesA wolf howling against a full moon is the most reproduced wolf composition there is, and a hoodie is the garment with enough surface to carry it properly. On a t-shirt the same design gets cropped; here it has room. The wolf...

Colour where the howl should be The wolf itself is painted honestly: grey and warm brown fur, eyes shut, head tipped right back so the throat opens along one long line from chest to nose. Everything around it is watercolour. Teal washes down the...

Ice light, and the eyes that cut through it Winter light does something strange to colour. Snow throws the blue of the sky back up into everything standing on it, and that is the effect the whole print sits inside: the wolf, the haze,...

The wolf as a soft outline A flat grey wolf head sits on the hood, drawn in simple shapes: a black nose, two white upper teeth, a red tongue and small ears set wide apart. It belongs to the storybook end of the animal...

Two wolves, opposedFire against ice, warm against cold, in a single composition. It is the most graphically direct piece in our painting range and it works because the contrast is doing all the work. The reading is duality: two natures held in one frame. That...

Presence without dominanceThis is the piece we would put top of the range, and the reason is balance rather than drama.A white wolf lying on rock, forepaws forward, lit against a night sky of heavy cloud, bare branches and scattered stars, has enough weight...

Five panels wideThis is the largest format in our range and it exists for one reason: some walls are wider than any single canvas sensibly goes.Five panels cover considerably more wall than a single piece at the same price, and each panel is light...

Not meant to be read at a glanceNon-figurative work asks something of the viewer that a portrait does not. The animal is present in gesture and colour rather than in outline, so the piece resolves differently depending on how long you look at it.What...
