Sunrise does most of the work in this design. A cream coloured wolf sits with its back to you on a low rock, tail curled at its side, watching the light break between a range of misty peaks. The whole cloth is washed in...

Red in a black and white imageThe colour choice is doing everything here, and it is not arbitrary. The picture is greyscale apart from the eyes, so red is the only colour anywhere in the frame. It is the reason warning signs, emergency equipment and...

Night sky and a snow ledgeA white wolf stood on a snow-covered rock, head turned, tail streaming out behind it. Behind it an open starfield and a very large crescent moon, and at its throat a beaded band with an ornament hanging from it.The...

Panels read as time passingMost multi-panel work is one picture cut into pieces. This is doing something better than that.A pack strung out across separate panels does not read as a frozen instant. The eye moves from one panel to the next in sequence,...

Where the dreamcatcher actually comes fromThe dreamcatcher is Ojibwe, later adopted by other nations and now reproduced worldwide with very little reference to either. The traditional form is a woven web inside a hoop, hung above a sleeping place. Bad dreams are caught in the...

Three panels, exact sizesThis is a triptych sold by real measurement rather than by Small and Large, which removes the usual guesswork.Read the sizes carefully though: 20x40cm X 3 pieces means each panel is 20x40cm, and the three panels stack one above another rather...

Standing into the weatherThe wolf is out in the open on a sunlit snow slope, standing square and facing straight down the frame rather than moving off, and that posture is the whole piece. It is also accurate. Arctic wolves live where temperatures reach sixty...

The one for a small wallThis runs 35x50cm, 45x60cm and 60x80cm, which makes it the most compact exact-size range we carry. That is genuinely useful. Most of our paintings assume a wall with space to spare, and plenty of rooms do not have one: the...

It looks backA head-on portrait is the most demanding thing you can hang. The eyes meet yours from anywhere in the room, and that is either exactly what you want or precisely what you do not.The print quality is what makes or breaks this...

The hunt is mostly failureThe scene keeps the two sides apart: a stag with its head raised in the mist at one end, wolves working along a snow ridge at the other, one of them howling with its breath showing in the cold. Grey...

There is an actual wolf in the skyLupus, the Wolf, is a genuine constellation in the southern sky beside Centaurus. It is one of the forty-eight catalogued by Ptolemy in the second century, so people have been putting a wolf among the stars for...

The opposite of a lone wolfNearly every wolf image sold anywhere shows one animal. This shows the group, and it changes the register completely. The lone wolf is the exception in wolf life, not the rule. Almost every wolf spends almost its whole life in...

Three focal points, not oneTwo animals and a moon. That sounds minor and it is the single most useful thing to know before ordering, because a composition with three strong elements behaves differently from one with a single subject. Each element needs room to be...

What a canvas print actually isWorth setting expectations, since realism is the selling point here and the word painting does a lot of work in this category. The image is two wolves running through deep snow under a blue moonlit sky, one dark and one...

No colour means no seasonTake the colour out of a forest and something useful happens: it stops being summer or autumn.A green woodland canvas is a summer picture hanging on your wall in February. A gold one is permanently October. In monochrome the scene...
