Shower Curtain Alpha Wolf

In a wild pack, the two wolves in charge are usually the parents. Long term field study replaced the old idea of a rank won by fighting with something simpler: a breeding pair and their grown young, a family that travels and hunts together. That is the look this portrait has, facing straight out, steady, in no hurry.

The wolf is drawn in high contrast greyscale, black through slate to near white, the fur cut into flat carved shapes rather than soft shading. Both eyes are open and level with yours. There is more on the pair at the head of a family in our piece on the alpha wolf.

Bronze hoop and feathers

Behind the head, a bronze ring encloses a fine web of threads across a charcoal field. Silver beads run down the right side of the hoop, feathers hang from the top corner and the lower edges, and pale filigree scrollwork fills the four corners of the panel. Greys, white and bronze carry most of the panel, with the hanging feathers bringing in brown and cream.
