Repainting is a weekend and a mess. New furniture is hundreds. A rug is expensive and has to fit. A set of cushion covers costs less than a takeaway, arrives in a padded envelope, and changes the thing your eye lands on first when you walk into the room.

They also store flat. Two or three sets in a drawer means a room that can be changed for a season, for guests, or simply because you are bored of looking at it, in about four minutes.

Layering them

The way to make a small set look considered is to vary something other than the print.

Different textures rather than different patterns: one printed, one plain woven, one knitted or ribbed. The eye reads variety from the surface rather than from competing images, which is why an all-printed group looks busy and a mixed-texture group looks styled.

Keep one print as the focus and let the others be quiet.

The cover

The print is a white wolf lying on a mossy rock, head turned to face you, with a dark blue-green forest of bare trunks behind it. Almost all the light in the image sits on the wolf, so it reads clearly from across a room.
