Every other painting in our range is rectangular. This one is not a single canvas at all: it is a cluster of hexagonal panels hung together as a honeycomb, with gaps between them, and it takes up about as much wall across as it does down, at 75x75cm, 100x100cm or 125x125cm.
That outline suits walls a rectangle struggles with: a chimney breast, a narrow section between two doors, the space above a square piece of furniture. It also centres more naturally, since there is no long axis pulling the eye sideways.
What it does not do is sit well above a wide sofa, where a landscape format fills the space far better.
A wolf's head looks straight out of the middle of the arrangement, gold eyed, against a fine geometric web of rings and threads. The phases of the moon run across the lower panels down to a full gold moon at the bottom, and the ground behind all of it is deep blue night sky clouded through with amber where the light catches.
Blue is the most restful colour to live with and the least likely to date, which makes this an easy long-term choice despite its size. It reads cool overall, so it suits rooms that already run warm, though the gold in the eyes and the moons keeps it from feeling cold.
These are large by our standards. Measure the wall properly, and remember a piece this shape needs clear space on both sides to look deliberate.
