Altruism in a wolf pack is real

The product name is doing something unusual for once: it is accurate.

Every adult returning from a hunt will regurgitate food for the pups, whether or not those pups are theirs. Older siblings babysit while the parents hunt. Injured or elderly pack members are fed and tolerated well past the point where they contribute anything.

None of that is sentimental. It is how a family-based animal survives in country where a lone individual usually does not, and it is one of the reasons wolves and humans recognise something in each other.

The print puts that on a cushion. A grey adult leans down over a snowy ledge, nose reaching towards a pup standing below, with a purple crocus opening between them. A red squirrel sits on the ledge above, and behind it all is green spring woodland and meltwater.

Spring rather than winter

Almost all wolf imagery is snow and dusk. This one is painted at the turn of the season, with green woodland and meltwater behind the ledge and the first crocus already open between the two animals.

That gives it a lighter palette than most of the range, which makes it one of the easier prints to put in a room that is not already dark.
