Two wolves, opposed

Fire against ice, warm against cold, in a single composition. It is the most graphically direct piece in our painting range and it works because the contrast is doing all the work.

The reading is duality: two natures held in one frame. That is the oldest idea attached to this animal and the one underneath the werewolf myth as well.

What it needs from a room

Space, and not much competition. A piece carrying both a warm and a cold palette will pick a fight with almost any strong wall colour, so it belongs on something neutral.

The advantage of that split palette is that it ties a room together in either direction. Warm furniture picks up the fire side; cool furniture picks up the ice. Few pieces manage both.

Go one size larger than instinct suggests. Bold compositions lose their impact when they are undersized, and this one in particular wants room.
