Pocket Watch Wolf Totem

Gousset is the French name for the small watch pocket sewn into a waistcoat, and in time the word passed to the watch that lived inside it. This one keeps that old shape and gives the whole front over to a wolf.

A totem behind domed glass

The case is black, and at its centre sits a round glass cabochon that lifts and magnifies the artwork beneath. A grey wolf looks straight out at you, lit in cold blue, with pale eyes and a scatter of small stars behind its shoulders. A pale stone hangs from a collar at its throat. A raised border runs around the glass, the bow at the top carries fine scroll detail with a small ribbed crown between its shoulders, and the chain shares the same dark tone.

Carrying a wolf on a chain

A gousset chain was never only a tether. Worn across the front of a waistcoat it announced the watch long before the watch was drawn, and the more chain there was, the more of it showed. At roughly 80 cm there is plenty here to work with, whether you drape it across a coat or wear the piece at the neck.
