A wolf's howl can carry ten kilometres across open country, further than any other sound it makes, and the animal printed here is caught mid note: head tipped back, muzzle lifted, jaws parted towards a field of cold blue stars.
The light in the photograph falls from behind and above, which is what gives the white coat its faint blue rim and pushes the deep indigo of the night further back. Small stars are scattered right across the eight panels, and a pale wash of light stands behind the head, so the sky carries real depth rather than sitting flat.
Dye sublimation turns the ink to vapour and settles it inside the polyester, so the image sits within the fibre rather than on top of it. That is why the blues stay as deep after a long wet season as they were on the first afternoon out.
