Wolf and Moon Comforter

A full moon takes up most of this print, drawn large enough that the craters and the dark seas show plainly across its cream face. In front of it a wolf stands on a low rock in flat silhouette, head tipped back, mid howl. Everything outside the circle is close to black, so the moon supplies all the light in the design and the animal is pure outline.

Why the moon and the howl arrive together

Wolves do not howl at the moon. They howl to find the rest of the pack across distance, to hold the edges of a territory, and to greet one another after time apart. What the night gives them is reach: cool, still air carries sound much further than a warm afternoon does, so the calls travel and the moon simply happens to be up.
