Large Indian Wolf Blanket

Everything a howl needs is in that face. A wolf lifts its muzzle so the sound leaves clear of the ground and travels further, holds one long note, then lets the pitch slide. Two wolves rarely settle on the same note, which is why three or four voices can sound like a crowd.

The howl is a contact call before it is anything else. Pack members spread out across miles of dark country, and the howl is how one of them asks where everybody is and gets an answer back. Cold still air after dark carries it best, which is why the sound belongs to the night.
