Three cushions on a sofa look considered. Four look like a shop display, and two look like a hotel.
The reason is that an even number naturally divides into matching pairs, and the eye finds the symmetry and stops. An odd number cannot be split evenly, so it reads as an arrangement rather than a set, and the eye keeps moving across it.
Designers, florists and photographers all use this. It is one of the more reliable rules of thumb in decorating, and it costs nothing to apply.
On a two-seat sofa, three cushions. On a three-seat sofa, five. On a bed, three in front of the pillows.
One of those should be the statement, and this is a good candidate for it: a single strong wolf print with two plainer cushions either side reads far better than three competing prints.
Let the wolf be the one that talks.
One wolf head, drawn in ink and watercolour rather than photographed, turned three quarters towards you with amber eyes and a coat worked in brown, tan, grey and black. Behind it the ground is warm cream, marked with a gold spiral to the left and a thin gold line tracing the ears. It is warm and pale rather than dark, so it leads a group without shouting over the cushions beside it.
45 x 45 cm, 100% polyester, high definition print, machine washable at 30 degrees. This is the cover only. The cushion pad is not included.
